Problem med spridare (spreaders)!

Post by Tapsa26 »

I have a Sunwind 26 (1979); the aluminium spreaders are original and almost loose.
Have someone tried to replace them? Have you bought them from rig maker (300 - 700 euros....) or have you made them yourself?
If yourself, have you used aluminium or stainless steel ?
What is the method I should use?

Hi Tapsa
When I was modifying my rig, I also elongated the spreaders. Simply by buying new round, 10cm longer, aluminum tubes (in a junkyard actually! ).
In original have SW20 round spreaders, so it was really simple to adjust the new tubes. When I was satisfied with the length and design of the tubes I had them anodized. All to a total cost of far less than €50!
I have had them for about 5 years now and it works very well!

In general I think that aluminum is a good material for spreaders since they should "only" be able to take strong compression forces, if stays and spreaders are mounted correctly.
